02 Nov 2006 15:13
The World Heart Federation has signalled their full support to the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign in a public letter of support.
“The World Heart Federation fully supports the efforts of the International Diabetes Federation in its Resolution on Diabetes to the UN. The World Heart Federation recognizes that people with diabetes are two to four times more likely to develop cardiovascular disease (CVD). The risk of cardiovascular death is about three times greater in people with diabetes as compared to people without the condition. The prevalence of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease constitutes a global health threat for all nations.” The letter was signed by WHF President, Valentin Fuster MD, PhD and Chief Executive Officer, Janet Voûte
The World Heart Federation is a non-governmental organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is committed to helping people achieve a longer and better life through prevention and control of heart disease and stroke, with a focus on low and middle income countries. It is a membership organization, comprising 189 member societies of cardiology and heart foundations from 100 countries and continental members covering the regions of Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas and Africa.
We welcome their support.
