22 May 2006 09:40
At a reception to promote the United Nations Resolution on diabetes last month, the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Diabetes pledged its support and offered to get other members of Parliament on board.
David Davidson MSP, the group’s chair, pledged their support in encouraging Scottish Ministers to support the Resolution, and warmly welcomed the initiative presented by Sir Michael Hirst, chair of the European Working Group of the UN Resolution on diabetes.
Sir Michael spoke about the mounting challenge of diabetes and the urgent need for global action at the reception and pre-launch, which was attended by 25 members of the Scottish Parliament including Dr Jean Turner, and many leading figures in the diabetes world in Scotland. The reception was sponsored by Novo Nordisk, a leading sponsor of the UN Resolution campaign.
