Russia rallys behind the 'Unite for Diabetes' campaign

11 Oct 2006 14:43

The alarming growth of diabetes throughout the Russian Federation has led the Moscow Diabetes Association and Russian Diabetes Federation to join forces to promote diabetes awareness and encourage government action.

On 13 November 2006, they will host a joint press conference at the offices of the Moscow Government to promote World Diabetes Day on the 14 November and the campaign for a UN Resolution on diabetes. The theme of this year’s WDD is ‘Diabetes Care for Everyone’ a goal that both organizations share.

Elvira Gustova, President of the MDA and co-President of the RDF said the MDA will also host additional press conferences for the media, people living with diabetes and healthcare providers on the 11, 18 and 28 of November in Moscow.

Since September, the MDA has delivered messages and information about World Diabetes and the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign to organizations across the region and on its website in Russian. In addition, on 29 September, the MDA organized a round table for the leaders of diabetes organizations throughout the Moscow and Kaluga regions.

A letter of appeal signed by 15 of those leaders was sent on 11 October to the Commission on ‘The Aspects of Development of the Civil Society’ of the Social Chambers of the President of the Russian Federation in support of the UN Resolution on diabetes.

We applaud the Moscow Diabetes Association and Russian Diabetes Federation for spreading diabetes awareness throughout Russia and for lobbying the Russian government in support of the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign.
