ONETOUCH Ultra Team joins the 'Unite for Diabetes' campaign

Liga Española de Raids de Aventura conquers extreme challenges everyday and are now joining the fight against the diabetes epidemic.

The Spanish team, which is sponsored by Lifescan, has pledged its support for the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign for a UN Resolution on diabetes and will wear the logo on their team uniforms. The team said “we would like to support this initiative due to the enormous importance and repercussion that we believe it has. To suffer diabetes does not mean to be an impediment for the personal, social and labour development of a person, but we need: knowledge about diabetes, motivation to overcome its day to day care and economic resources in order to have the last advances to the care of diabetes.”

Known also as ONETOUCH Ultra, the team is comprised of people living with type 1 diabetes, many for almost 20 years, who joined together to compete in raids.

A raid is a physical examination of extreme resistance that takes more than 24 hours to complete and includes alternating disciplines like mountain race, mountain cycling, canoeing, swimming, climbing, and skating using topographic maps and compasses. See the team in action.

The International Diabetes Federation aims to secure a UN Resolution on diabetes to focus the world’s attention on the economic, social and humanitarian costs of diabetes. The goal is to promote the diagnosis, care, education of diabetes and to research for a cure. ONETOUCH Ultra said it stands behind those goals.

“Yes, maybe its only word, but the people who believe in the role of the United Nations think that this could be a good start for a change for the better,” the team said. “This is why our team wants to support the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign, inform the world about it and wear the logo on our T-shirts while the campaign lasts.” Visit the team’s official website.
