IDF Chooses Blue Circle to Represent UN Resolution Campaign
17 Mar 2006 16:54
To kick-off the IDF-led campaign for a UN Resolution on diabetes, an icon was needed to symbolize unity in diabetes and support for the campaign. A simple blue circle was chosen and the campaign has already begun branding itself with it.
The symbol of the circle was chosen because of its frequent occurrence in nature and because since the dawn of humankind, cultures worldwide have used the circle to symbolize life, mother earth and health. The unbreakable unity it represents mirrors the global diabetes community and the unity it must display to gain support for a United Nations Resolution on diabetes.
In light of the need for United Nations approval, the blue of the circle reflects the colour of the United Nations flag and pays tribute to the symbol of unity that the UN represents to the world. The UN is the only organisation that can convince governments worldwide to fight diabetes and reverse the global pandemic.
To support the campaign for a UN Resolution on diabetes, IDF welcomes the use of the icon for local and national campaigns. By incorporating the icon, you will be joining a global effort to improve diabetes care everywhere.
