Global petition reaches 10,000 signatures on World Diabetes Day
14 Nov 2006 14:09
Today is World Diabetes Day and the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign has reached another milestone. 10,000 people have signed the global petition to spread diabetes awareness and to secure a United Nations Resolution on diabetes.
The theme of today’s World Diabetes Day is ‘Diabetes Care for Everyone’. The International Diabetes Federation chose 2006 as the year of the disadvantaged and the vulnerable. The campaign for UN Resolution on diabetes seeks to increase diabetes care and global awareness of diabetes in children, the elderly, indigenous populations, migrant populations from developing countries and pregnant women.
World Diabetes Day and the UN Resolution on diabetes both serve to increase global awareness of this deadly epidemic and to bring greater recognition to the human, social and economic burden of diabetes.
We urge everyone to continue to spread the word about diabetes by signing the global petition, passing the diabetes pin and lobbying their governments to support the UN Resolution on diabetes.
