Federación Diabetológica Colombiana lobbies for the UN Resolution on diabetes

The “Federación Diabetológica Colombiana” (FDC) is in full support of the International Diabetes Federation led campaign for a UN Resolution on diabetes. The FDC has pledged to request that all relevant United Nations organizations assist wherever possible, in global efforts against the pandemic and to keep their actions under regular review to counter the negative impact of diabetes on individuals and society as a whole.

The FDC plans to secure the support of the Colombian government and support the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign through face-to-face meetings with the Minister of Health and, if it is possible, with the president of the Republic to ensure their positive vote for the Resolution at the UN General Assembly; by contact with Mr. César Gaviria, previous UN General Director; and by scheduling a workshop of public awareness on diabetes. They plan to invite members of the Government, journalists, patients’ associations and national and international NGOs to the workshop.

Mr. Álvaro Fortich, President, Mr. Iván Escobar, Secretary and Ms. Ana Beatriz Rossi, Press officer for FDC also report that they plan to work with the media, and celebrate this year’s World Diabetes Day (November 14) by focusing not only on the disadvantaged and the vulnerable, but also on the United Nations Resolution on diabetes. The FDC also plans to encourage our members and associations to join and promote the ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign.

The Federación Diabetológica Colombiana will provide logistic and economic resources and will request that the Associación Colombiana de Diabetes join the efforts in Colombia.
